Valucre Blog Special Edition: The 2013 Awards Results

The 2013 Valucre Awards!

Howdy Valucre!

We finally draw to a close this year’s Valucre awards. The process certainly had its share of controversy, but in the end, the lists of finalists rounded out with some very well qualified people—honestly, I think that’s what counts the most. Honestly, this last vote turned out a bit skimpy in comparison to the poll voting, which makes me wonder if it was lack of advertising or burnout that resulted- we’ll have to find that out later on. Rather than dwell on what could have happened better (we’ll hash that out soon enough), let’s get down to giving some props to our candidates for this year’s categories.

As one might expect, not everyone who voted chose to vote in every category. With the data this generates, I’m going to present the awards in the order of ‘least popularly voted’ to ‘most popularly voted’ as the order. How that starts- well, you’ll see that in just a moment! Obviously, Fan Favorites will round out the end list, as we had a turnout of 37 votes for Fan Favorites this year- Fantastic! (Ba dum psh).

Alright, useless commentary and bad jokes aside, I present to you your 2013 Valucre Awards!

Valucre's Most Improved

This one was no contest- no contest at all. The original plan was to have the members give us a few nominations and then have a few dedicated staff go look through these nominees oldest posts of 2013 and their newest posts of 2013, to determine which among them had the greatest amounts of improvement. Well, you guys went and made it easy- only one name was brought forth and it is indeed a good one. Without further ado, your 2013 most improved player is:

 Congratulations BRS, keep improving!

Hero of the Year

The vote for hero was a close one- so darn close that the winner one by just one vote! We had two candidates here pull ahead, but only one managed to rise above, proving to be the hero of 2013. The candidates were:

Jericho Joshua Jordan, co-founder of the Justice Group!

Syven Lillis De'Virisario: Orisia’s Head of Defense!

Theoren Valkien: A truly ‘Fabulous’ Hero and Friend!

And your 2013 Hero of the Year is…

Theoren Valkien!

Congratulations on your win!

Role-Player of the Year

This one too ended up close, with three candidates rushing for the title and one coming out over top- also by a single vote (there are many close votes this year), breaking the expectation that this one might be ran away with. This achievement is designed to recognize the Role-playing endeavors of an individual as rising above all the rest. Certainly, all four of these nominees qualified as fantastic contributors to Valucre’s RP scene.

                        Aleskei!

                        King!

                        Pasion Pasiva!

                        Supernal!

And your 2013 Role-Player of the year is…

Congratulations on your win!

Role-Play of the Year

Something that never ceases to amaze me is the sheer volume of great role-play Valucre puts out every day, all year long. The threads that made it above the cut are definitely some fine contenders, but only one could be called this year’s ‘Best Role-Play’. This one was one of our more definitive votes, with the favorite leading a bit more strongly. Let’s see who made it to the top.

                        A Ship Towards Orisia!

                        Dupes of Imposture!

                        The Regent Kicks Back!

                        The Tea Party!

This year’s Role-Play of the year is…

The Tea Party

Congratulations Orisia (this is their second win in a row)!

Best New Member of 2013

We recruited many new faces this year, and many of them went on to be excellent, productive members. Speaking honestly, I think I saw more talented new members join us this year than I had in any other year.  While we could compile quite the list of impressive new faces, we managed to get this down to four nominees, and only one managed to make it to the top in another close contest (winning by just one vote). Your nominees and winner of the 2013 Best New Member Category:

                        Bradapalooza

                        Die Shize

                        PandaHat

                        Refrigerator

And the winner is…

Congratulations on the win!

Best Villain of 2013

The progenitor of controversy, this category got a lot of attention, grabbed most votes among the polls and had most views here on the blog! In the end, only one of these shady characters could reach the top, doing so by just one vote as well! Who were the most dastardly of 2013? Who managed to push his way to the top? Let’s look:

Alexander Endriel- The Witch King Anew!

Farkis Marisante- Terrenus’ most prolific terrorist!

                        Resurgence- Murderer of Royalty!

                        Roen- The Devil Himself!

And, your winner of Villain of 2013, by just one vote…

Alexander Endriel!

Congratulations on your win!

Fan Favorites of 2013

And now finally, the fan favorites.

Unlike the other contests, this one ends with seven total winners instead of just one absolute best. By the closing of the voting, we had exactly seven people who stood above the rest, making the process work out exactly as we hope. There was one clear first place winner who had just shy of over half the people vote for him (seriously!), followed by three tied at second and three tied at 5th. The winners are presented in order of placement, then alphabet. Votes compiled came in through the thread and a couple sets through PM.

If you are curious about how close you came to making the list, you can PM me or contact me over Yim. The 5th-7th place finishers had 8 votes.

I present your 2013 Fan Favorites!

Congratulations to the fan favorites! Congratulations to The Hummingbird on her second win, Praetorian and King on their second wins and second in a row, and to Supernal and Acies for three wins in a row. Congrats to Aleskei and Pasion Pasiva on their first ever wins!

The Closeout

This concludes the 2013 awards for Valucre. It’s good to see some fine folks out there getting recognition for the hard work they put out, and I hope it encourages them to keep providing quality works and encourages others to work towards reaching those same levels. As in life, not everyone can be a ‘winner’ at everything they do, but regardless if you lost it here or even if you didn’t quite make the list, take pride in the work you do, and keep putting out the best product you can. Maybe you have not yet achieved a level where many others notice, but it does not mean that you have gone unnoticed by everyone, nor does it mean that what you do does not matter. All it means is that you should keep –making- that effort.

Anyway, I wanted to take a moment in these closing thoughts not to do my usual semi-coherent rambling on some topic that strikes my fancy in the moment. Instead, I’d like take a moment to thank those who also make up the backbone of this site, contributing awesome role-play and lore, but did not make the nomination list for RPer of the year and have been with us for more than a year. That list was already rather extensive, and I suspect in the coming revisions, it will be even more exclusive next year. If you contribute to activity, lore, plots, or in any other capacity to the Role-Play scene, this nod’s for you. I would list you all out individually, and even went and started it, before I realized I was getting one heck of a long list, and the odds I missed some important peeps will increase as the list get’s longer. I don’t want to accidently leave anyone out and make it feel like a slight- so please, if you RP steadily here or provide in other ways to Valucre’s RP-

Accept my sincerest thanks.

Until next year!
