Synopsis: It is the beginning of a new age. Genetic experimentation and the following mutation has paid off, giving rise to a new breed of humans with incredible powers. Among the first of these is Erik Lehnsherr with the power to control metal, and Charles Xavier, a telepath of immense power. Scarred by the past, Erik searches for revenge while Charles struggles for unity among "regular" humans and mutants, creating friendships and conflicts as they find themselves fighting against one another in the face of World War III.

Best Part/Best "Phrase": Flight of the Banshee
Favorite Actor: James McAvoy as Charles Xavier.
Music Quality: Good, nothing exceptional, but good nonetheless.
Language: A few, one use of the F-word, some insults mothers may not like.

Pros: This movie works on something not often done or successful in superhero movies: characterization. This movie soars in this respect without for one moment lacking in the action department with bits of humor. The plot is solid, the villains intelligent and frightening as they pretty much overpower Charles and his recruits in every way. The acting is well done, and every mutant you thought had no personality is fully fleshed out.

Cons: The movie is definitely geared toward the Russians being bad guys and the Americans good guys with a few Germans of usual bad guy measure, which has gotten tiresome. But when it comes to actual negative features, the movie has little to desire. The bad guy mutants lack the most when it comes to motive or characterization, and the first appearance of young Erik is a little overdone with a long "NOOOOOOOOOOO".

Rating: 4/5 stars
Rewatch Value: Definitely yes.
